My Story

I have always been active and played sports growing up but in my early twenties I decided I wanted to start running half marathons. With the pertinence of an LMNA genetic mutation running in my family that causes early onset heart disease, I made the difficult decision to get tested and talk with my doctor about whether distance running was safe for me. I knew had a 50/50 chance of having it and results came back saying I did.

Everyone with this mutation eventually develops some form of heart disease, or it shows up in another way physically. I let it motivate me. The biggest defense I have against my genetic fate is taking care of myself so I changed. I cleaned up my diet, my sleep, my habits and prioritized my physical wellbeing. I went on to hike 10 of Colorado’s beautiful 14ers and ran countless races — trail races, 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons and eventually a full marathon. After a few too many running-related injuries, I realized that I needed more than just endurance. In 2019, I got serious about strength training.

I went from not being able to curl a 10lb dumbbell to falling in love with strength training and completely changing my body composition. I feel so incredibly lucky for all these experiences that directly impact who I am and how I live my life.

While I still love to run and hike, strength training has my heart and I want to help others reach their body composition and health goals. I became a personal trainer because I feel I am meant to help others feel strong, capable and empowered.
